bdsc-newsSSG LogoThe MDSFA is looking to move forward with Small Sided Games participation in 2010, embracing the concept up to and including the Under 9 age group.

Attached you will find the FFA guidelines for SSG. The MDSFA is planning to organize the SSG program within these guidelines.

SSG Parent Guide

Last MDSFA attempted to play SSG with squads of players who split into two teams to meet the requirements of the concept. This season MDSFA suggests that clubs move to having individual sides with, let’s say, two extra players above the number mentioned within the FFA guidelines, to constitute a side. For instance, in the Under 6’s you may have teams made up of 6 players with only four being on the field at any one time.

The MDSFA will once again run the popular Gala Days for the Under 6, Under 7 and Under 8 age groups during the season.

The proposal for the Under 9’s is to run an end of season knockout competition with the Final being played at Lynwood Park on Division 1 Grand Final Day. The competition would commence on a date to be determined, depending on the number of teams nominated. It is proposed that a draw will be established for the opening rounds before the competition extends into the finals which would run concurrently with the finals series for the association’s mainstream competitions. Teams knocked out in the early rounds may have extra games scheduled up until the QF stage of the competition. This would mean that Under 9 age group sides would play as many as 15 or more games in their season and offer extra revenue for clubs hosting games during this competition.

Whilst the proposal to include Under 9’s in SSG this season may not be universally popular the LCC, with the support of the MDSFA Board, feel that it’s a commonsense approach to implementing what is, after all, an FFA strategy. This move brings MDSFA into line with the majority of other associations. It also puts our association on track to implement the full SSG curriculum by season 2012.

Moving to Under 9’s this season will also allow for minimum disruption with those players moving into the age group having only played mini football in 2009.

The Club is happy to receive sensible feedback on these proposals ASAP
